Having abs does not come easy to most people. It takes a lot of hard work and being quite strict with diet. In my experience, here are 3 reasons why you can’t get abs!

1.     YOU DON’T DO ANY FORM OF RESISTANCE TRAINING

Doing cardio only will burn fat and you will get leaner, but it won’t help with getting abs. Doing ab exercises such as crunches, planks, etc will help tone up your abs. But the best type of exercise to get abs is actually resistance training and HIIT. This type of exercise will burn a lot more calories after your workout and will be the key for getting abs.  I don’t like lifting really heavy weights anymore due to the bulkiness it caused in my lower body and back. So my resistance training now consists of high rep circuits using light weights and resistance bands. I also like to do boxing and HIIT occasionally.

2.     YOU DON’T EAT HEALTHY

If you don’t eat healthy, you won’t see abs – fact. You won’t be able to see your abs if there is a layer of fat over them. To get rid of this, you need to be eating as best as you can! You don’t need to be eating super healthy 24/7. I eat healthy 80% of the time and allow treats 20% of the time. You do need good dedication with your diet to get visible abs.

Here are some blog posts on nutrition that may help you:

3.     YOU OVEREAT

If you’re eating super healthy but you overeat, it is actually still possible to put on weight. If you want to shed some fat, especially from your stomach region, you need to be eating at a calorie deficit (i.e. eating less food than your body needs). To work out your daily calorie intake, read my blog post here.

Keep in mind that to get abs, you need to be doing ALL THREE of these things. Read more about my flat stomach workout and nutrition program here.
