Elle Macpherson became famous as a model in the 1980s. She was on the cover for five different Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issues. She was so popular that she was even nicknamed “The Body!”

Elle’s in her 50s now, and she still looks incredible! In addition to being a model, Elle is a mom and businesswoman. She’s also worked as a TV host and an actress.

I’m excited to share more about her approach to wellness, how her routine has changed over the years, and what she does to stay in shape. :)

Elle Macpherson’s Diet

Elle eats a plant-based diet year-round, and she values balance and maintaining health. Because of this, Elle doesn’t go on any extreme diets or binges. She simply tries to eat well throughout the year. She loves vegetables, and she makes sure all of her food is 100% organic.

Elle loves the Alkaline Diet and follows it about 80 percent of the time. With this diet, she avoids red meat, wheat, dairy, sugar, and processed foods. She also prefers to eat raw, vegan foods, but she will eat some meat (mostly fish) and cheese depending on the situation. If her body is craving hot food, she’ll eat it as well.

For the remaining 20 percent of her diet, she allows herself to order steak, drink wine, or eat ice cream.

Even though she doesn’t like extreme diets, Elle typically limits her sugar and wheat intake in general, and she mostly eliminates them before the summer season. This helps her feel a bit better, slim down, and look a bit leaner prior to swimsuit season.

On most days, she eats three meals and two snacks. Here’s what she eats:

What Elle Macpherson Eats for Breakfast

Every morning, Elle starts her day with a cup of hot water and lemon. Then, she drinks Super Elixir greens, which is her daily health supplement. The supplement contains herbal extracts, vitamins, minerals, and probiotics. She also drinks a cup of matcha tea.

If Elle is feeling bloated or inflamed, she likes to drink apple cider vinegar in water, and she makes sure to drink 3 liters of water a day.

Elle makes different breakfasts depending on what she feels like. Some of her favourites include:

  • Chia seed pudding flavoured with ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, and cinnamon
  • Oatmeal soaked in hemp milk
  • Fruit
  • Poached eggs and avocado (her weekend go-to!)

For a breakfast treat, she loves mochas with whipped cream.

What Elle Macpherson Eats for Lunch

Elle really likes to eat raw foods, and most of her lunches are pretty light, including raw or lightly cooked veggies. She will also eat some fish (she doesn’t like red meat, chicken, or other poultry products), so one of her favourite lunches is salmon with lemon and olive oil. She eats this with beetroot salad and pearl barley.

Elle loves making salads for lunch. She mixes kale, spinach, sprouts, cucumber, cabbage, avocado, coriander, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds together, and she uses olive oil as a dressing. Sometimes, Elle will top this salad with sardines.

Another one of her favourite, easy lunches is some vegetables with a piece of sunflower toast.

What Elle Macpherson Eats for Dinner

Elle’s dinners are usually plant-based too, and she likes to plan her meals based on the vegetables that are in season. Different vegetables provide different nutritional benefits, and Elle likes eating a variety of greens because of this.

Some of her meals include:

  • Pasta with butternut squash
  • Sea bass with a Greek salad
  • Vegan pizza
  • Eggs with veggies
  • Hummus with seed bread and vegetables

If she’s craving a dessert, Elle will eat dark chocolate or vegan ice cream.

What Elle Eats Macpherson for Her Two Snacks

Elle typically drinks a protein shake in the afternoon around 2 p.m. She makes her shakes with pea and rice protein powder as the base. She likes both vanilla and chocolate flavours, and she mixes the powder with either milk and banana or water and avocado.

She eats another snack a couple of hours later — typically at about 4 p.m. She normally makes a green smoothie for this snack, but other times she eats kelp crackers and sesame, seaweed, or a couple of dates. Sometimes, instead of eating this snack in the afternoon, she’ll have it in the morning at about 10:30 to keep her going until lunch. She listens to what her body needs that day. :)

Elle’s Macpherson Workout Routine

Elle loves to exercise and is intentional about moving her body in different ways every day. When she was younger, she was really disciplined about doing intense exercise every single day.

Elle says that, when she was a young model, she cared a lot about her figure, and she had to for her job. She used to do a lot of HIIT workouts. However, as she’s gotten older, she has turned to less intense forms of exercise. She still prioritises looking good (and she does!), but she’s also learned to value inner health.

Today, Elle is still very disciplined, but she also picks types of exercise that she enjoys. She doesn’t want to stress out her body too much, and she likes to work out outside whenever she can.

Yoga is one of Elle’s favourite types of exercise, and she does it almost every day. In fact, she typically goes to a yoga class every afternoon after work.

Elle practices Vinyasa yoga, which can be an excellent form of resistance training. With this type of yoga, you coordinate your poses with your breath, and you move seamlessly from one position to another. Over time, this can strengthen and tone your muscles.

She also does gentler forms of yoga that focus on breathing, meditation, and stretching. She likes to do this right before bed, but she’ll sometimes start the day out this way too. Yoga helps her relax and re-center after a busy day.

Cardio Workouts

Elle typically does some sort of cardio exercise in the morning before work, and she does cardio in addition to her afternoon yoga classes. Sometimes, when she’s traveling, she isn’t able to squeeze this is into her schedule and will do a yoga workout instead. However, her preference is to be able to do cardio. She typically works out an hour per day.

Depending on the day, she will:

  • Go for a long walk with her dogs at a park
  • Run
  • Swim laps (typically in the ocean)
  • Work out on the elliptical
  • Ride her bike

She also enjoys doing boxing or spin classes with friends.

Outdoor Sports

Elle has always loved being outside, and she always has. In fact, she wishes she wore more sunscreen when she was younger!

She likes to exercise in ways that are fun for her and help her connect with nature. She used to spend a lot of time working out in the gym. Now, her preference is to get outside and mix it up.

Elle loves getting outdoor sports in whenever she can, and she isn’t picky about the weather either. She likes water skiing, running, cycling, swimming, skiing in the winter, and walking her dogs. Elle also loves to go for long hikes, and she’s a fan of paddle boarding too.

Making exercise fun is a great way to do it consistently, and incorporate it into the life you already live!

Wrapping Up

Elle is an icon in the modeling word. She was a stunner in the 1980s, and she continues to be one today! I have loved learning what she does to keep in shape.

Elle’s approach to focusing on her inner beauty just as much as her outer beauty is fantastic. She takes care of herself in ways that make her feel good, and that’s something we should all strive to do. :)

  1. Hi, what would you say Elle’s body type is? You said she did a lot of HIIT training as a model but I am wondering if interval training will add bulk to my legs?

    1. She’s a lovely mesomorph! The type of exercises that you follow should depend on your body type and fitness goals. If you wnat to avoid any type of unwanted bulk, it woukd be best to avoid exercises that would out a lot of pressure on your quads. :)
