Jessica Chastain is an amazing actress who has shined in countless movies over the years! She’s now an Oscar winner for Best Actress, how great is that!

In addition to this, she’s known for advocating for equal pay for female actors, and she does an excellent job of staying true to herself. She tries to pick movie roles that feel authentic to her, and she also styles and takes care of herself in ways that reflect her values. 

Here’s more about Jessica’s diet and workout routine: 

Jessica Chastain Diet

Jessica became a vegan in her 20s. She chose to become one for health reasons. At the time, she was experiencing high cholesterol, and she wanted to avoid taking medication for it. As a result, she started looking into her diet. She never imagined she would become a vegan, but she felt like her body’s needs were leading her to the diet. 

Jessica realized that the shellfish she loved eating was high in cholesterol, so she cut that out and started to examine other parts of her diet too. She says she feels and looks better (especially her skin!) after making the switch. Jessica even convinced her mom to join her as a vegan. Now, her mom owns a vegan food truck! 

She enjoys cooking. Although she wouldn’t call herself an expert at it, she has been trained as a chef at the Natural Gourmet Institute in New York! She loves vegan cooking and has done a great job of sharing some of her favourite recipes on Instagram and with her fans. Here’s what she eats:

What Jessica Chastain Eats for Breakfast

Jessica likes to make vegan banana pancakes, especially over the weekends when she’s looking for a treat. 

To make them, she mixes: 

  • 1&1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1&1/4 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • Sliced bananas

What Jessica Chastain Eats for Lunch

Jessica loves fresh food, like spring rolls. She makes her own using cauliflower as tempura and serves them with pickled shallots and an edamame sauce. Edamame is a good plant-based protein source! 

Here’s what’s inside the rolls: 

  • To make the pickled shallots, Jessica combines black peppercorns, a cinnamon stick, star anise, coriander seeds, salt, white wine vinegar, and shallots. 
  • For the edamame sauce, Jessica combines jalapenos, garlic, shallots, edamame beans, vegetable oil, and rice wine vinegar. 
  • To make the cauliflower tempura, she deep-fries cauliflower with flour. 

In addition to the shallots, sauce, and tempura, she likes to include the following in the spring rolls:

  • Carrots
  • Cucumbers 
  • Chervil 
  • Tarragon
  • Red grapes
  • Radishes 
  • Lettuce
  • Shisho leaves
  • Beansprouts

What Jessica Eats for Dinner

For dinner, Jessica sometimes likes to make a vegan alternative to a cheeseburger. She uses Beyond Burger meat and vegan cheese. In addition, she likes to top her burger with grilled veggies, like onions and tomatoes. She also adds pickles and lettuce to her vegan burgers.  

Jessica likes to cook without oil when she can, and she also tries to cook in a cast-iron skillet. When you cook in these skillets, your food absorbs some of the iron minerals that the skillet is made out of, helping make sure you get enough iron. Since vegans can’t get iron from meat, it is important for them to consume iron in other ways. 

Jessica doesn’t eat vegan burgers too often, though. She loves to try different vegan soups, stews, and roasted meals for dinner too. 

Jessica’s Weakley Cleanse

In addition to being a vegan, Jessica has another diet-related habit that’s important to her. Every Monday, she does a green-juice fast. Jessica’s clear that she does this because it makes her feel good, and she doesn’t think anybody should do so if it is unhealthy for them. 

To Jessica, a weekly fast helps her reflect on her life, and it helps her reset at the start of a week.

Jessica Chastain’s Workout Routine

Jessica likes to play a variety of characters on screen, but some of her favoriteu types to play are strong women. This makes sense because she loves feeling empowered herself too. For Jessica, exercise is one way to feel strong and confident! 

Yoga

Jessica likes to make sure yoga is a part of her regular routine. In general, she does yoga at least twice a week. She typically attends Byran Kest Power Yoga classes online, and she loves the feeling of holding a plank or a new yoga pose for a long time! She likes taking classes online because of how convenient they are when she’s traveling. 

Power yoga is an excellent way to tone your muscles, and doing power yoga can help you target all the little muscles in your body that can be hard to reach in traditional strength training.

Resistance Training

At the start of the pandemic, when she was uncomfortable going to a gym, Jessica tuned in to Isaac Boots’ Torch’d workout classes. She streamed them with her grandma, and they kept each other accountable by doing the workout together every morning. How sweet! 

A class with Isaac will often include leg raises, arm circles, jumping jacks, crunches, bridges, and leg extensions. 

Jessica also shared her at-home lower body and core routine on Instagram. In the video, she uses ankle weights and focuses on doing Pilates-inspired resistance exercises, such as: 

  • Side leg lifts
  • Inner thigh side leg lifts 
  • Up and over leg extensions 
  • Leg extensions 
  • Crunches
  • Bicycle crunches 
  • Bridges 

Jessica also likes to make sure her workouts are practical! She jokingly shared a video on Instagram of one of her favourite workouts — washing her car and cleaning her patio!

Even though she just made the video for laughs, I think doing chores like washing a car or shoveling snow can be a great way to get your body moving! Plus, regular exercise can make those tasks easier on your body. :)

Cardio

Jessica loves to dance! She especially likes dancing the Lindy Hop. This is a dance that requires a partner, so it is typically a social activity. I love mixing exercise with fun, and it’s great to see celebrities doing that too!

I have loved learning more about Jessica’s diet and workout routine! Jessica’s lifestyle reflects who she is as a person. Her routine is very personal. Because of this, it might not be what your body needs.

However, I love that Jessica takes care to do what makes her feel happy, healthy, and confident in herself! I think that’s what she would want for all women. :)
